Board of DirectorsJoseph C. Bennett, a native of Minneapolis, MN, has been active in the mining industry for over 50 years. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in mining engineering and mineral economics from Stanford University. After graduate school, he started his career as a mining engineer in northern Minnesota. Eventually project oversight and management took him all over the world. Among other industry positions, Joe was a co-developer of Minnesota Steel Industries, President and CEO of Federal Resources Corporation, and a vice president of International Mining Corporation and Molybdenum Corporation of America. Joe presently serves on the board of the University Hospital Foundation in Utah. He has also been Chairman of the Board of the Grand Teton Music Festival, a trustee of the Utah Symphony, Chairman of Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, and Chairman of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. Charlotte Lyeth Burton is Chairman of Longyear Realty Corporation, a family-owned corporation that holds land, timber and mineral interests in northern Michigan and Minnesota. She is also a member of the boards of Carroll Paul Forest, Inc., and Superior Mineral Resources LLC. Ms. Burton is the former Managing Director of Shakespeare on the Sound, which produces an annual summer Shakespeare festival in Rowayton as a community event. Previously, she was Director of Development for The Maritime Center in Norwalk and The New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, NY. Edward Gale was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He graduated from Mesa State College in 1976 with a B.A. in English. Edward settled in Minnesota in 1981 and farmed in Minnetrista, Minnesota, for 19 years. During this time he served in appointed and elected positions, including Chair of the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission from 1993-1999 and as mayor of Minnetrista 1996-98. Since 1995, Edward has been involved in the mining business serving as an officer or Managing Partner of four mining companies. In 2000 he relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico, earned his M.A. from Southwestern College, and has since 2004 been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Santa Fe. Stephen J. Hicks is president and CEO of J. M. Longyear LLC, a natural resources company with interests in the upper Midwest and Canada. He is also CEO of Frontier Renewable Resources LLC. Steve brings more than twenty years of experience in businesses focused on natural resources to the Board. An alumnus of Michigan Tech (MTU), Steve graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting and is a graduate of the University of Michigan Business School Executive Program. He presently serves on MTU’s Board of Control and has served on MTU’s School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science Advisory Committee and Building Expansion Committee. He has also served as chair of the Michigan Forest Products Council. John S. Pillsbury III is a native of Minneapolis. A graduate of Yale University, he was a commercial banker for over 30 years; first with First Bank Minneapolis (now US Bank) and then as a founder of a startup bank in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been a general partner of Sargent Land Company, Keewatin Mining Company, and Meriden Engineering for over 20 years. These companies are predecessors of Superior Mineral Resources LLC. He has been an investor and board member of two mineral core drilling companies, Northwest Drilling Company and Idea Drilling Company, and has been Chairman of the Board of Sargent Management Company, a registered investment advisor. He presently resides in Telluride, Colorado, and served on the board of directors of the Telluride Historical Museum. Robin B. Schoenwetter holds a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude, 1990) and a Juris Doctorate (1993) from the University of Minnesota and has over 16 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit arena. As an attorney, she has experience representing high net worth individuals on a wide range of estate planning and business succession issues. Robin has held leadership positions as a trustee of the Junior League of Minneapolis, where she served as legal advisor, Chair of Training and Leadership Development, and as the Vice President of Strategic Planning. As a trustee of the Ripley Memorial Foundation, Inc., she was elected Chair of the Board Development and Nominating Committees. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and is a Vice President of The Bennett Office, Inc. John P. Snyder III was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. John now resides in southern California. He graduated in 1969 from Colorado College with a degree in Business Administration. John has been in senior management most of his adult life and has owned several small businesses. He has been involved in the mining industry for over twenty years and currently is a governor or managing governor of five different mining LLCs. Managers
Howard has Bachelor (1970) and Master (1972) Degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, and has more than thirty-five years of leadership experience in the mining industry. Most recently he served as Executive Vice President of Minnesota Steel Industries LLC. He previously served as the President and CEO of EVTAC Mining, a 5 million ton iron ore mining and pellet plant operation in northeastern Minnesota. Howard has also held various management positions at three other iron ore mines in northeastern Minnesota, as well as copper producing mines in Michigan and Arizona. He is a member of the Society of Mining Engineers (SME).
Hibbing, MN, native Greg Lindahl graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1979 with a Bachelor of Mineral Engineering degree. Greg has spent his entire career in the mining industry. He was hired by Hanna Mining Company in 1979 as a mining engineer in the Hibbing division office. While still with Hanna he moved to National Steel Pellet Company as mining engineer/mine foreman, then to Butler Taconite as mine engineer/concentrator foreman, moving back to National Steel Pellet Company as tailings basin engineer. Greg left Hanna to join Hibbing Taconite Company in 1988 as tailings basin engineer. Greg came to Meriden Engineering in 1990 serving as Chief Mining Engineer until 2008 when he accepted his present position. Greg is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. He is a director of the Iron Ore Lessors Association and a member of the Society of Mining Engineers (SME).
Jim’s work experience includes over twenty years in finance and accounting, primarily in the mining and commodities industries, as well as ten years of small business ownership. Before joining Superior Mineral Resources, Jim served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and was on the board of Cutler Magner Company, a regional supplier of salt and lime products operating in the Duluth-Superior Harbor basin of Lake Superior. Jim’s career also includes over sixteen years with EVTAC Mining where he last served as Vice President and Controller. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics/Mathematics from St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Staff
Sue joined Meriden Engineering in 1999 as its accountant. Later that year, she was promoted to Treasurer. Sue is responsible for bookkeeping functions, royalty payments, land ownership records, financial statements, payroll, fringe benefits, insurance, real estate and income taxes. She also assists with the annual audit. Sue is a native of Hibbing, MN. Before joining the company, Sue worked in public accounting for twenty years.
Beth is Executive Assistant to the Superior Mineral Resources management team. She assists the team by managing project follow-up and correspondence. She handles travel arrangements, accommodations, correspondence and lease documents. Beth assists with board meeting preparation and has the overall responsibility for the SMR website, statistical information, minutes, records and follow-up. Beth is a native of northern Minnesota, moving to the Iron Range at an early age. After working for a local mining company for over ten years, Beth joined Meriden Engineering in 1989.
Pam is the Administrative/Technical Assistant at Superior Mineral Resources LLC. She is a little bit of a jack-of-all-trades for the company. She enters statistical data for monthly reports, visits the mines for scale tests, helps things run smoothly around the office and assists whoever and wherever needed. A native of Hibbing, MN, Pam began working for the company in 2004. Pam has many years of administrative experience and previously worked as a telephone operator, was licensed in insurance, and was head of the Senior Insurance Advocacy Program at the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency. |
